Hillary
Clinton has been approved as the next secretary of state after the U.S. Senate
voted 94-2 in favor for the former Democratic presidential candidate.
The
U.S. Senate wasted little time in confirming Clinton, noting it was necessary
to act quickly as President Barack Obama maps out a plan to deal with two wars
and the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
Clinton,
a former rival of Obama in the Democratic Primary, was a popular pick for the
role of secretary of state. Her experience as a Senator from New York and her
time in the White House while Bill Clinton served as president made her a
viable candidate.
While
a few Republicans questioned her husband’s ties to foreign donors to his
foundation an overwhelming majority of senators dismissed those concerns.
