Lindsey Vonn is determined to not let her knee injury stop her from competing in the next World Cup and the 2014 Olympic games in Russia. In a statement to Us Weekly magazine on Wednesday, Vonn said she plans to “work as hard as humanly possible” to get back to top form.
"First off I want to say thank you to the amazing medical staff that cared for me," Vonn said in a statement to Us Weekly. "I plan on returning to Vail as soon as I can to have the necessary surgeries."
"I am also grateful to my fans for the outpouring of support, which has really helped me stay positive," she added. "I can assure you that I will work as hard as humanly possible to be ready to represent my country next year in Sochi."
Vonn’s surgery is scheduled for next week. U.S. team physician William Sterett told The Associated Press that the 28-year-old is “in good spirits.”
Vonn sustained torn ligaments in her right knee and a lateral tibial plateau fracture in a crash at the World Championship Super G race in Schladming, Austria on Tuesday. She was airlifted from the scene.
