A mid-game brawl Thursday night at Petco Park left Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke with a fractured left collarbone that could keep him from playing for 2 months. In an early morning tweet on Friday, the team said Greinke “will return to Los Angeles to see Dr. Neal Elattrache tomorrow.”
The brawl started in the top of the sixth inning after Greinke hit San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin in the shoulder with a pitch. Angry at the hit, Quentin rushed the mound and slammed into Greinke. Dodgers and Padres players then poured onto the field.
After the game, Greinke insisted the hit was an accident. "I never hit him on purpose," he said. "I never thought about hitting him on purpose. He always seems to think that I'm hitting him on purpose, but that's not the case. That's all I can really say about it."
The last time Greinke hit Quentin with a pitch was in 2009. Thursday’s hit makes a total of 3 times.
