Since Thursday morning, we are now able to see who, what, when, where and where we can watch the action unfold. Out of thirty teams sixteen are left to square off in eight opening-round series games for the right to advance to the semifinals. So who are the teams in the dance? The first round of the playoffs looks like this. 1. Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks 2. Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks 3. Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Cubs 4. San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Lakers 5. Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston Rockets 6. New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics 7. Los Angeles Clippers vs. Memphis Grizzlies 8. Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors Pretty exciting stuff all the way around, but especially when you delve deep into each matchup. For example, the Pacers aggressive defense vs. Josh Smith’s mind games and Al Horford’s footwork and, every now and then, Kyle Korver’s ability to hit a 3. On the other hand the less-aggressive Hawks defense will have to contend with the Pacers offense, which is even more aggressive than the defense if you can believe it. Next we have Miami vs. Milwaukee. This will be far less exciting than any of the other games unless you’re there to see a matchup of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Monta Ellis. then you’re all set. We cannot forget about the Bucks’ paint-patrolling marvel: Larry Sanders. His little outbursts should serve to fire up Milwaukee fans. The Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls is only a little exciting as it is missing a few key factors that would make this game that much better. Deron Williams has been good to the spectators, and Nate Robinson is no slouch, but we will be missing the excitement of a Williams-Derrick Rose face-off, not to mention Joakim Noah is not quite up to speed. All in all, we are looking at the chess match of NBA playoffs between a meticulous offense that will probably pass to Brook Lopez in the end, and Chicago’s overloading and blocking. The San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Lakers matchup is another one that would be much more exciting if everyone was at full health. Unfortunately we have to sit through a game with no Kobe Bryant and versions of Manu Ginobili, Steve Nash and Tony Parker that are not at full capacity. On the other hand, the saving graces of the series, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard should be good as well as Tim Duncan. The Oklahoma vs. Houston series should be one of the most exciting series in the first round. Unfortunately it is also going to be pretty fast, I mean Jeremy Lin has been an animal, plus even though the Rockets played at the fastest pace in the NBA this year, Oklahoma was able to play just as fast despite being 10th in the NBA. New York vs. Boston is a matchup that spans the decades. For more than 60 years this has been a postseason rivalry that every basketball fan can get into. Right now the Celtics have the upper hand with 8 of 13 playoff series including the last one back in 2011. This is going to be a game for the very observant spectator as there will be a lot of little one-on-ones everywhere. The L.A. Clippers vs Memphis matchup is kind of like a re-do for last year’s best opening round series, and both teams have improved since then. It is also very exciting that coaches Del Negro’s and Hollins’ may very well be playing for their jobs as both their contracts end at the end of this season. This one is about as good as it is going to get, but there is one more that should prove to be the must-watch-game of the first round. The Denver Nuggets vs. The Golden State Warriors is going to be the game to watch in the first round. The Nuggets have a team that looks like they should be renamed the Mon-stars and, to make it worse for the other team, they can play defense too. It’ll be like shooting through a really muscular thicket. On the flip side Stephen Curry did just set a new record for most 3-pointers in a season, so he must know what he’s doing. In conclusion, I am very excited about this first round and can’t wait to see it all go down. For more sports news, go to http://community.wooeb.com/wooebsportsnews
