NBA Recap for October 29, 2014
Breaking down the first full night of basketball within The Association.
For most teams in the NBA, Wednesday night was the first action for the majority of the teams in the Association. In a hyped up season that features a San Antonio title defense, the return of the Hornets in Charlotte, and a King coming home it is certain that this will be another amazing season. Wednesday featured the first night of a full slate of action following the three games on Tuesday that kicked off the new season.
Chicago 104 vs. New York 80
The game with the most intrigue last night was when the Bulls traveled to the Knicks and faced off in the garden. Chicago brought back the key to the franchise in Derrick Rose as he returned from another catastrophic knee injury that cut his season short for the second consecutive year. On the New York side of things, Phil Jackson was making his debut as Team President for the Knicks along side Derrick Fisher who made his coaching debut. When they stepped on the court, the game started off evenly matched. As the game progressed, the lack of defensive play and the inexperience of the triangle offense for the Knicks proved to be too big of a hill for the Knicks to climb. The Bulls ended up pulling away in the second half and took the game 104-80. The leading scorers were Taj Gibson with 22 points off the bench for Chicago, and for the Knicks it was their star Carmelo Anthony with 14 points.
Milwaukee 106 vs. Charlotte 108 OT
In Charlotte, North Carolina there was a buzz in the air. It could have been due to the start of the new season, new players such as Lance Stephenson, or the return of the Hornets. Many people will say that the Bobcats experience in Charlotte was one to forget. With the legend that is Michael Jordan having a controlling interest in the team again this year there is only room for improvement. The start of a fresh season and the rebirth of a team, it would only be proper for the home team to walk away with a win. Charlotte faced a feisty Milwaukee Bucks that maintained the lead the majority of the game. When the fourth quarter started, the Hornets were down 83-68. Determined to send the fans home happy, the Hornets fought back and outscored the Bucks 32-17 in the quarter. Kemba Walker was the driving force behind the victory with 26 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds.
Washington 95 vs. Miami 107
A question that will be asked all year will be how will the Miami Heat rebound without King James. LeBron James made “The Decision Part II” when he chose to go home to Cleveland and attempt to bring home a title to a city that has not seen one since 1964. The team that he left behind in South Beach will have to recover from losing the former MVP that averaged 27 points a game last season. That task started last night when they squared off against the Washington Wizards. A talented team in Washington gave the Heat all they could handle. The game remained close until the final quarter when the Heat increased their lead by outscoring the Wizards by ten points in the fourth. Chris Bosh dominated the game by scoring 26 points and pulling down 15 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season.
