For years the Clippers have always been recognized as the second best team in Los Angeles. Sharing an arena with the Los Angeles Lakers and their great history, the Clippers have been forced to take the back seat in LA. Over the past few seasons, the Clippers have turned that trend and now can easily be considered the best team in LA.
Three years ago in 2011, the Clippers began to form a roster that will be able to contend for years to come. The main piece to the puzzle was when the Clippers made the trade to acquire Chris Paul from the Hornets. Ironically, it took a vetoed trade that would of sent Paul to the Lakers in order to complete the deal. Once Paul, became a Clipper they coined the nickname “Lob City”. They became known as a team that will run the court, out hustle opponents, shoot from the outside, and throw down alley-oops on any defender in their way.
Results are what matter in the NBA, and the Clippers have been to the playoffs three consecutive years. With that being said, they don’t have a ring or a Finals appearance to show for their efforts. Looking to get over that hump will be the same core group of players in Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Jamal Crawford. Depth is an advantage that the Clippers have over other teams. They have players capable of coming off the bench and taking over the game.
A new era for the Clippers took place at the start of the 2014 season. Near the end of last season, controversy struck the team after the comments made by former owner Donald Sterling. With a new owner in Steve Ballmer, the excitement has grown for the potential of the team. The new era of Clippers basketball is here. A talented roster, an excellent coach, and a proud new owner have the Clippers poised to achieve greatness.
