AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 4

Atlanta, Ga. 9/24/2007 6:13:47 AM

The USC Trojans continue to hold on to the top spot in the AP Top 25 yet the LSU Tigers have clearly sent a message that they are gunning for the men of Troy as they inched closer to the #1 ranking with an impressive win on Saturday. The Oklahoma Sooners benefited from another big win on Friday as they leap-frogged a sluggish Florida Gators squad that looked suspect in their Saturday victory over the Mississippi Rebels.

USC is still #1 this week in the AP Top 25 after beating the Washington State Cougars 47-14 on Saturday. John David Booty threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns in the Pac 10 blowout.

The LSU Tigers continued to prove that while USC has received the votes they may just be the team that win sit all. Once again the Tigers landed at #2 after easily beating the then #12 South Carolina Gamecocks 28-16 on Saturday.

Friday night gave the Oklahoma Sooners the opportunity to enjoy the spotlight and they delivered a 62-21 thumping of Tulsa that helped them pass up the Florida Gators and claim the #3 spot in the AP Top 25.

After a lackluster 30-24 win on Saturday the Florida Gators dropped to #4 in the rankings. Tim Tebow wasn’t the one to blame for the slip as the sophomore quarterback ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 261 yards and two TDs.

Pat White kept the West Virginia Mountaineers undefeated and #5 in the AP Top 25 after rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for a pair in their 48-7 win over East Carolina on Saturday.

The California Golden Bears remained at #6 this week in the AP Top 25 rankings after their 45-27 Pac 10 win over the Arizona Wildcats. Justin Forsett rushed for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the victory.

Determined to prove they were worthy of their ranking the Texas Longhorns came out and blew the doors off the Rice Owls 58-14 on Saturday. Colt McCoy threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns in the bruising and kept the Longhorns at #7 this week.

Ohio State proved to be too much for Northwestern this weekend as the Buckeyes romped to a 58-7 victory on Saturday to remain the #8 team in the country. The Buckeyes defense held the Wildcats to just 120 yards of offense in the game.

The Wisconsin Badgers are at #9 this week after sneaking past the Iowa Hawkeyes 17-13 in a Big Ten match-up. Wisconsin trailed heading into the fourth quarter but P.J. Hill managed to score to give the Badgers a 14-10 advantage.

Rutgers sneaked into the top ten this week and landed at #10 after the Penn State Nittany Lions lost to the Michigan Wolverines. The Scarlet Knights enjoyed a week off and will host Maryland next Saturday.
