NFL Scores Week 3: Patriots, Packers, Colts, Steelers, Cowboys Stay Unbeaten

Atlanta, Ga. 9/24/2007 11:11:10 AM

After week three in the NFL the five teams remain unbeaten while four teams are still chasing their first win (New Orleans plays on Monday and will try to capture their first against the Tennessee Titans). The highlight of the week could be handed to Brett Favre who tied Dan Marino’s touchdown mark after tossing number 420 in the Packers victory over the Detroit Lions.

While Favre entered the record book there were several other notable performances from individuals that were instrumental in earning victories for their team. Tom Brady and Randy Moss continued to dominate as the pair hooked up for a pair of touchdowns in the Patriots rout of the Buffalo Bills. Donovan McNabb silenced many of his critics after throwing for 381 yards and four touchdowns.

Green Bay (3-0) stayed perfect on the year after staging a fourth quarter comeback against the San Diego Chargers (1-2) and earning a 31-24 victory. Brett Favre threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns while the Packers held LaDainian Tomlinson to 62 yards rushing.

Damon Huard hit Dwayne Bowe on a 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to lift the Kansas City Chiefs (1-2) to a 13-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings (1-2). Larry Johnson had another slow day in the backfield finishing with 42 yards on 24 carries but Huard was an effective 20 of 29 for 206 yards passing.

Tom Brady threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns while Randy Moss had 115 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns as the New England Patriots (3-0) overwhelmed the Buffalo Bills (0-3) 38-7. The Patriots totaled 485 yards while the Bills could manage just 193.

Donovan McNabb threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns, Kevin Curtis had 221 yards receiving and three touchdowns and Brian Westbrook finished with 221 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns as the Philadelphia Eagles (1-2) pounded the Detroit Lions (2-1) 56-21.

The New York Jets (1-2) built a 31-13 lead and then held on to beat the Miami Dolphins (0-3) 31-28 for their first win. The Dolphins out-gained the Jets 424-256 yet couldn’t find a way to put more points on the board. Thomas Jones finished with 110 yards rushing to lead the Jets offense.

Willie Parker rushed for 133 yards and the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0) got a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Allen Rossum and an interception returned 50-yards by Bryant Mcfadden to beat the San Francisco 49ers (2-1). Ben Roethlisberger finished with 160 yards passing and a touchdown for the Steelers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) intercepted Marc Bulger three times limited the St. Louis Rams (0-3) to just 245 yards of total offense in their 24-3 victory on Sunday. Earnest Graham rushed for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Jeff Garcia finished 14 of 22 for 151 yards.

Peyton Manning threw for 273 yards and a touchdown while Joseph Addai added 72 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Indianapolis Colts (3-0) beat the Houston Texans (2-1) 30-24. The Colts defense limited the Texans to just 40 yards rushing while picking Matt Schaub off twice in the win.

Matt Stover kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired to give the Baltimore Ravens (2-1) a 26-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals (1-2). Kurt Warner replaced a largely ineffective Matt Leinart and nearly brought the Cardinals back with 258 yards passing and two touchdowns.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) forced three turnovers and held the Denver Broncos (2-1) to just 47 yards in their 23-14 victory. The Jaguars totaled 186 yards on the ground to dominate the time of possession, holding a 17 minute advantage over the Broncos. David Garrard was an efficient 14 of 20 for 154 yards passing.

Phil Dawson kicked what appeared to be a 40-yard game winner but a time out prior to the attempt nullified the three point sand when Dawson lined up for a second time the Oakland Raiders (1-2) blocked Dawson’s attempt to beat the Cleveland Browns (1-2) 26-24. Lamont Jordan led the Raiders offense with 121 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Jake Delhomme threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns while DeShaun Foster rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown as the Carolina Panthers (1-2) beat the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) 27-20. Joey Harrington had a big game in the loss throwing for 361 yards and two touchdowns.

Matt Hasselbeck hit Nate Burleson on a 22-yard touchdown pass with one minute left in the game and the Seattle Seahawks (2-1) beat the Cincinnati Bengals (1-2) 24-21 on Sunday. Shaun Alexander finished the game with 100 yards rushing while the Seahawks forced four turnovers from the Bengals.

A last minute goal line stand gave the New York Giants (1-2) a 24-17 victory over the Washington Redskins (2-1). The Giants trailed 17-3 at halftime but Eli Manning capped the comeback with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with 5:32 left in the game.

Tony Romo threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns while Terrell Owens had 145 yards receiving as the Dallas Cowboys (3-0) beat the Chicago Bears (1-2) 34-10 on Sunday night. Marion Barber III rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown while the Cowboys defense picked off Bears quarterback three times in the game.
