Monday Night Football: Familiar Faces Battle as Tennessee Titans Take on New Orleans Saints

Atlanta, GA 9/25/2007 2:16:25 AM

Monday night will be the first time Reggie Bush and Vince Young has faced off against each other since the 2005 Rose Bowl. Bush, the former Heisman Trophy winner, and his USC Trojans entered the game as the No. 1 team in the nation and the odds-on favorite. However, Young and his Texas Longhorns came back to win a stunner, 42-39, and the BCS National Championship.

A few months later, Bush and Young were taken second and third in the 2005 NFL Draft, respectively. Later in the draft, Tennessee selected Bush’s running mate LenDale White.

This time, the 1-1 Titans are the favorites against the 0-2 Saints. The Saints’ record is a disappointment to say the least. Last season, they had the league’s best passing and total offense, and went to the NFC Championship Game.

This season, the Saints have been outscored by 48 points, and they've given up five touchdown passes of 24 yards or more. Bush has 22 carries for 65 yards and has scored one less touchdown than the player taken ahead of him in the draft, Texans defensive end Mario Williams, whom many considered to be the wrong pick over Bush.

Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, who was tied for second in voting behind Young for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, is struggling along with Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees. Colston is averaging just 8.4 yards per catch thus far, while Brees has just one touchdown pass.

With the offensive talent of Bush, Colston, Brees and running back Deuce McAllister, the Saints should get back into the swing of things or else their season is over.  They can either maximize their potential or maximize the naysayers who think that last year was a bust.

The Titans rely on their running game with White and Chris Brown, who has combined for 165.5 yards per game thus far. With the running ability of Young, the Titans are dangerous on the ground, as they lead the league in rushing offense with 211.5 yards per game.
