Monday Night Football: Tennessee Titans Keep Saints Winless as Drew Brees Melts Down

Atlanta, Ga. 9/25/2007 11:27:46 AM

Vince Young threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns and the Tennessee defense forced five turnovers as the Titans (2-1) beat New Orleans 31-14 on Monday night to keep the Saints (0-3) winless on the year.

Tennessee’s defense stepped up big in the Superdome as they held Reggie Bush to 15 yards rushing on seven carries a the Saints managed just 32 yards on the ground. Unfortunately for Saints their passing game wasn’t much better as Drew Brees finished 29 of 45 for 225 yards but was picked off four times.

Despite the Saints inability to move the ball the game stayed tied at 10-10 late in the third quarter but LenDale White gave the Titans a 17-10 lead on a one-yard touchdown run. Vince Young gave the Titans some breathing room early in the fourth when he connected with Bo Scaife on a three-yard touchdown pass to push the score to 24-10.

Trailing by 14 the Saints were forced to throw the ball, not a good thing for Brees on Monday night. On their first possession of the fourth quarter Brees was picked off by Keith Bulluck, giving the Titans great field position but a missed field goal gave the Saints another opportunity to cut into the Tennessee lead.

After driving down to the Titans 45 Brees was once again picked off, this time by Vincent Fuller who returned it 61-yards for a touchdown and iced the game with just under three minutes remaining in the game. Brees came back on the field for the Saints third possession of the quarter but he quickly tossed his third interception of the frame, once again finding Bulluck.
