After tossing six interceptions including three in an embarrassing loss Sunday night to the Dallas Cowboys the Chicago Bears are ready to sit Rex Grossman and hand over the quarterback duties to Brian Griese.
Following the 34-10 loss head coach Lovie Smith said on Monday, “Will Rex Grossman start Sunday? Well, our evaluation process is going on right now, and if you come out to practice Wednesday, you'll have a better idea of who will be starting at all positions.”
Smith holds a regular Wednesday news conference and most expect him to make the announcement then, for many it has been an announcement that’s been a long time coming.
At 1-2 the Bears can ill afford another loss on Sunday when they face the Detroit Lions.
After advancing to the Super Bowl last year Chicago has found that they can no longer rely on their defense to make up for Grossman’s inadequacies handling the snaps. With just 500 yards passing Grossman ranks 23rd amongst quarterbacks in the league and is carrying a 45.2 rating.
With Griese behind center the Bears will have a 10-year vet who has thrown for 16,564 yards but he attempted just 32 passes last year as a back-up for Grossman.
