With two outs in the top of the ninth Brian Giles hit a go-ahead three-run homer that provided the San Diego Padres with a 6-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
The win snapped a four game slide for the Padres who now hold a one game advantage in the Wild Card race after the Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves earlier in the evening.
It was almost a three way tie in the Wild Card race as the Padres entered the ninth inning trailing 4-2. Khalil Greene doubled to left to start the inning but two quick outs put the Padres in a desperate state but a Brady Clark single scored Greene and a walk to Oscar Robles put runners on first and second with Giles stepping into the box.
The Padres leadoff man then sent a Brian Wilson delivery over the right-field wall for the lead and possibly saved
