Hope Solo Rips Greg Ryan, Calls her Benching “Wrong Decision”
Moments after the
Speaking to reporters after the 4-0 blanking at the hands of Brazil Solo had to choke back tears, saying of Greg Ryan’s move, “It was the wrong decision, and I think anybody that knows anything about the game knows that.”
For three straight matches leading up to the semifinals match Solo hadn’t allowed a goal but on Wednesday Ryan announced that he would be placing Scurry in the box, favoring her 12-0 record against
That record is now 12-1 and led to many people questioning Ryan’s competency as leader of the American side. Solo said “the fact of the matter is it's not 2004 anymore. ... It's 2007, and I think you have to live in the present. And you can't live by big names. You can't live in the past. It doesn't matter what somebody did in an Olympic gold medal game in the Olympics three years ago. Now is what matters, and that's what I think.”
Scurry was the goalkeeper for the 1999 side that captured the World Cup as well as the Olympic Gold in 2004.
