AP Top 25 Week 5 Schedule begins Friday Night with #18 South Florida Hosting #5 West Virginia

Atlanta, Ga. 9/28/2007 11:36:59 PM

With many of the AP top 25 college football teams squaring off against lesser opponents on Saturday there are just a few key match ups that could determine BCS births for both teams.

Fortunately for college football fans one of those games kicks off on Friday night as the #18 South Florida Bulls (3-0) host the #5 West Virginia Mountaineers (4-0). To earn a BCS birth the Bulls will probably have to win the Big East title and Steve Slaton, Pat White and the rest of the Mountaineers are looking to capture the title themselves and this game will be their first true test of the season.

The Bulls shocked the Mountaineers last year in Morgantown 24-19 and there is no doubt that will be playing in the minds of both sides when they line-up tonight. While the Bulls defense has allowed just four touchdowns in their three games the Mountaineers have relied on a high powered offense led by Heisman hopefuls Slaton and White. In their season opener West Virginia scored nine touchdowns, giving just a glimpse of what may lay ahead for the Bulls.

In their four games this year the Mountaineers have averaged 47.3 points per game and have beaten their opponents by an average of 30.3 points. That offensive firepower will be facing a defense that has allowed just 15.3 points per game.

Heading into the game West Virginia is favored by seven points but the Bulls are ready to make a statement and realize that a win tonight could vault them up the ladder of the AP Top 25 and keep them on track for a Big East title and BCS birth.
