Week 5 College Football SEC Match Ups; Florida Gators Ready for Auburn while Kentucky Looks to Stay Perfect Against FAU

Atlanta, Ga. 9/29/2007 1:31:15 AM

While the AP Top 25 features six teams from the SEC those rankings can be thrown out the window when two teams inside the conference play each other, just ask the Florida Gators.

It was the Auburn Tigers that handed the Gators their only loss last year when the two teams met in Jordan-Hare Stadium. No doubt the #4 Florida Gators will be ready this year as they host the Tigers in Gainesville. Florida is looking to go 3-0 in the SEC while the Tigers are looking for their first conference victory. Kickoff is at 8:00 pm ET.

The #16 South Carolina Gamecocks will try to rebound from their loss to LSU when they host the Mississippi State Bulldogs. S.C. head coach Steve Spurrier has opted to start freshman quarterback Chris Smelley rather than Blake Mitchell. Both teams are 1-1 in the SEC and 3-1 overall. Kickoff is at 12:30 pm ET.

In another big SEC showdown the #15 Georgia Bulldogs will be hoping that they don’t suffer a let down after last week’s big win at Alabama. The Dogs will host the Mississippi Rebels and need a conference win to keep their SEC East hopes alive. The Rebels are looking for their first SEC win of the year. Kickoff is at 1:07 pm ET.

The #2 LSU Tigers should have little trouble when they take on the Tulane Green Wave in the Superdome. This should be a tune-up game for the Tigers who will be facing the Florida Gators next week in what could be a match up of the SEC Championship game. The Tigers defense shouldn’t have any problems with Tulane. Kickoff is at 12:00 pm ET.

With everybody talking about the #14 Kentucky Wildcats the FAU Owls will be looking for the upset. The Wildcats have had tremendous play from quarterback Andre’ Woodson as their offense has averaged 47 points in their four wins. FAU won’t be intimidated by the Cats, and if Kentucky is looking ahead to South Carolina they could get nipped. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm ET.

It has been more than 30 years since the #22 Alabama Crimson Tide faced the Florida State Seminoles and the match-up on Saturday will be played on neutral turf in Jacksonville. The Crimson Tide will look to rebound from their loss to Georgia last week while FSU is coming off a bye week after beating Colorado two weeks ago. Both teams need a win to keep their season alive. Kickoff is at 5:00 pm ET.

Vanderbilt is coming off a 31-17 SEC win over Mississippi last week and will face the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Saturday. Vandy will be desperate for a win, after the eagles they have to travel to Auburn, host the Georgia Bulldogs and tehn travel to South Carolina. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm ET.
