For at the first half of Saturday’s game the #2 LSU Tigers looked as if they had their eyes set on next week’s game against the #4 Florida Gators and the Tulane Green Wave made them pay. By the second half LSU’s talent took over and they managed to record an unremarkable 34-9 win.
LSU scored early in the first quarter on a 2-play 49 yard drive highlighted by a 43-yard pass from Matt Flynn to Brandon LaFell that put the score at 7-0 but that would be the only touchdown they could manufacturer in the first half.
So uninspiring was the first half for the Tigers offense that it took a Colt David 36-yard field goal with three seconds left in the half for the Tigers to avoid trailing at the break. With the kick the Tigers led 10-9. The second half was a different story.
The defense for LSU continued to play aggressive, holding the Green Wave scoreless while the offense scored three touchdowns, two from running back Charles Scott to erase any hopes Tulane might have had for an upset.
Flynn finished the game 16 of 30 for 258 yards but once again the story for the Tigers was their defense as they held the Green Wave to 229 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.
Now LSU can turn their attention to the Florida Gators. The two teams will meet next week in
