Atlanta Braves general manager John Schuerholtz told centerfielder Andruw Jones that the club would not be looking to resign him after a year that saw the 30-year-old slugger hit .222 with just 26 home runs.
The five-time all star made $13.5 million in the final year of his contract but was expected to look for more despite his career low numbers. He is represented by agent Scott Boras who is well-known for his ability to get his client’s the most money regardless of the quality of season.
Rather than invest the type of money it would take to re-sign Jones the Braves will likely look to keep first baseman Mark Teixeira as well as invest in starting pitching.
