Josh Beckett tossed a complete game four-hit shutout while Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz hit homeruns as the Boston Red Sox beat the LA Angels 4-0 to win game one of their American League playoff series.
After giving up a single to Chone Figgins to lead off the game Beckett set down the next 19 Angels batters, a stretched that didn’t end until Vladimir Guerrero singled with one out in the 7th inning. By that time the Red Sox had built a 4-0 lead.
The Red Sox plated their first run in the bottom of the first Kevin Youkilis sent a John Lackey delivery over the wall in left center.
In the third inning David Ortiz hit a two-run homer to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. Lackey then walked Manny Ramirez who advanced to second on a wild pitch. Mike Lowell then drove Ramirez in with a single for a 4-0 lead.
