College Football SEC Schedule: Week 6

Atlanta, GA 10/5/2007 1:51:38 AM

#8 Kentucky @ #11 South Carolina

Thursday, 7:30pm

Generally a game between two mediocre programs, the Wildcats/Gamecocks battle can determine the SEC East champion. Heisman candidate Andre Woodson looks to take his arm and the SEC’s top scoring offense against the Gamecocks, who have the nation’s best passing defense. Freshman Chris Smelley is back at the helm for Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina squad. The Wildcats hope to take advantage of his lack of game experience.

Vanderbilt @ Auburn

Saturday, 12:30pm

After Auburn’s huge upset against Florida last week, they look to ride that wave against Vandy. Wide receiver Earl Bennett has been the best wide receiver in the SEC, if not in the nation, thus far this season and looks to continue his success against the Auburn defense.

Louisiana Tech @ Mississippi

Saturday, 2pm

The teams in the game are a combined 2-7. On the bright side for Ole’ Miss, they are at home. They also have running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis and wide receiver Mike Wallace as definite weapons. Louisiana Tech has one of the worst offenses in college football.

Alabama-Birmingham @ Mississippi State

Saturday, 2:30pm

Mississippi State is starting to turn around their program with their only losses coming to ranked opponents: LSU and South Carolina. The Bulldogs will come out of the gates strong as they look to move up the SEC West standings against UAB.

Georgia @ Tennessee

Saturday, 3:30pm

The Bulldogs travel to the nation’s largest stadium, Neyland Stadium, to take on SEC East rival Tennessee. The Vols were ranked high in the AP Top 25, but have since dropped out of the top 25. With the acclaim and success of Kentucky and South Carolina, these teams look to challenge for the SEC East title.

Houston @ Alabama

Saturday, 3pm

Alabama is coming off of a tough loss to Florida State and looks to bounce back against the Cougars. The Crimson Tide will be led by quarterback John Parker Wilson, freshman running back Terry Grant and wide receiver D.J. Hall. The Tide has just dropped out of the top 25 and expects to be back in the rankings soon. Houston will have a tough time against Nick Saban’s vengeful and revitalized ball club.

Chattanooga @ Arkansas

Saturday, 7pm

With the nation’s second best running attack, Heisman candidate Darren McFadden and running back Felix Jones expect to run over every opponent. McFadden is second in the nation in yards per game and Jones is first in yards per carry, averaging over 10. Chattanooga comes in with a 1-3 record with no answer for their rushing prowess.

#9 Florida @ #1 LSU

Saturday, 8:30pm

The defending champion Gators storm into Death Valley against the newly-appointed #1 Tigers. Quarterback Tim Tebow will have his hands full against the LSU defense, which leads the nation in several statistical categories. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey looks to disrupt the potent Gators offense and seek revenge against the Gators for last year’s loss.
