Mark Bradford hit Tavita Pritchard on a 10 yard touchdown pass with 48 seconds left on the clock to hand the Stanford Cardinal a shocking 24-23 victory over the #2 USC Trojans on Saturday.
The Trojans had an awful time holding on to the ball throughout the game as they committed five turnovers, four coming from the hand of quarterback John David Booty.
It was off a Booty interception that the Cardinal scored their first touchdown as Austin Yancy picked the senior off and returned it 31 yards to cut the Trojans lead to 9-7 just as the second half started.
USC was able to find the endzone late in the third quarter when Booty hit Fred Davis on a 63 yard touchdown pass and the Trojans carried a 16-7 lead heading into the fourth.
The lead was cut to 16-14 after Anthony Kimble crossed the goal line on a 1 yard run but Booty tossed another long touchdown pass, this time to Ronald Johnson for a 46-yard score and the Trojans reestablished their nine point advantage with 11 minutes left in the game.
Stanford managed a field goal on their next possession when Derek Belch was good from 26 yards.
USC then took over on their own 35 but after converting one first down the Trojans found themselves in trouble facing a 3rd and 19. The trouble resulted in Booty’s third interception of the game when Wopamo Osaisai came down with a deep ball.
With just under three minutes remaining in the game Stanford began their march on the USC 45 yard line. After getting down to the 19 yard lien the Cardinal were hit with a holding penalty that pushed them back 10 yards. The game came down to a 4th and 20 and
As it went one fourth down wasn’t dramatic enough for the Cardinal as they once again were faced with a convert or go home and with less than a minute left in the game
