NFL Scores: New York Giants Score 21 Straight to Knock Off New York Jets to Jump Above .500
Brandon Jacobs had 100 yards rushing and a touchdown, Plaxico Burress totaled 124 yards receiving and a touchdown on five receptions and the New York Giants picked off Chad Pennington three times in their 35-24 win over the New York Jets on Sunday.
With the win the Giants improved to 3-2 on the year while the loss dumped the Jets to 1-4 on the season.
While Jacobs finished with a strong game it was his fumble in the first quarter that provided the Jets with the opening score as Kerry Rhodes took the loose ball 11-yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
The Giants tied it in the early stages of the second quarter when Derrick Ward ran it in from 8-yards out. The Jets took the lead as the first half was winding down when Brad Smith caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Pennington. Rather than head into halftime facing a 14-7 deficit the Giants opted to try and move the bal but Eli Manning was picked off with less than 30 seconds remaining and the Jets turned it into three points on a Mike Nugent 47-yard field goal as time expired.
Manning then settled down and managed to lead the Giants on a nine play 68 yard drive capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Shockey with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Giants grabbed their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter when Manning found Plaxico Burress on a 53-yard strike to go up 28-24.
With under four minutes remaining in the game the Jets had one more chance to go ahead but Pennington was picked off by Aaron Ross who returned it 43-yards for a game-clinching touchdown.
