Monday Night Football: Dallas Cowboys Look to Stay Perfect in Showdown with Buffalo Bills

Atlanta, Ga. 10/8/2007 11:23:06 PM

On paper this game looks like it’s destined to be a blowout. Tony Romo and Terrell Owens will lead the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL’s number one ranked offense into Buffalo tonight to take on the Bills and the worst defense in the NFL.

Not exactly what they were hoping for when schedule-makers were designing the Monday Night Football package.

The Cowboys have averaged 440.8 yards per game while going 4-0 to start the season and the Bills have allowed a league worst 430.5 yards per game while opening the year at 1-3.

As bad as the Bills defense has been, their offense is equally as inept as they carry the NFL’s second worst offense into tonight’s game. Averaging just 226 yards per game the Bills have averaged 10.3 points per game. Put that number up against the Cowboys 37.8 points per game and that 10 ½ point line looks mighty attractive.

Dallas will be led by quarterback Tony Romo who has already thrown 11 touchdowns while being picked just three times for a QB rating of 112.9, the only quarterback with a better rating is Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. Part of Romo’s success can be attributed to the fact that he has a lot of options. Terrell Owens and Jason Witten have been two of his favorite targets but it was Patrick Crayton last week that totaled 184 yards receiving and two touchdowns in their dismantling of the St. Louis Rams.

To keep the air attack going the Cowboys have had success on the ground with Marion Barber III and Julius Jones. Barber has been the featured back with 306 yards and four touchdowns while Jones has balanced it out with 176 yards rushing and a touchdown.

The positives for the Bills is Trent Edwards is coming off a solid week in which he completed 22 of 28 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown in their 17-14 win against the Jets. But their defense allowed 346 yards in that game and for the year the Jets have averaged 282.2 yards per game, 29th in the league.

Buffalo could be in for some real trouble if they try to air it out against Dallas as Anthony Henry leads the NFL with four interceptions while Ken Hamlin and Roy Williams each have a pair. Dallas is tied with the Detroit Lions for team interceptions with 9 and Detroit has played one more game than the Cowboys.

Monday Night Football kickoff is set for 8:30 pm ET on ESPN.
