Rick DiPietro stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced and Bryan Berard netted a power-play goal at the 13:56 mark in the second period to lift the New York Islanders (3-1-0) past the New York Rangers (1-2-0) 2-1 on Wednesday night.
The Islanders got on the board in the closing seconds of the opening period when Marc-Andre Bergeron scored with four ticks left before intermission.
That 1-0 lead didn’t last long as Fedor Tyutin netted the tying goal 2:09 into the second period but nearly twelve minutes later the Islanders took advantage of a power-play and Berard snuck one past Henrik Lundqvist for the go-ahead goal.
DiPietro then stopped all 12 shots he faced in the third period to give the Islanders the win.
