Antoine Vermette and Joe Corvo each scored in the third period and Brian Elliot stopped 28 of 29 shots while in goal as the Ottawa Senators (5-0-0) dropped the winless Atlanta Thrashers (0-3-0) 3-1 Wednesday night.
Chris Kelly scored early for the Senators as he slipped one past Thrashers goalie Kari Lehtonen for a 1-0 lead the 2:09 mark in the first period but Ilya Kovalchuk answered for Atlanta when he scored nearly five minutes later with a quick snap shot past Elliot to equal the score 1-1.
From that point on Elliot was a wall as he stopped 24 shots in the second and third period while Vermette handed the Senators a 2-1 lead with a slap shot past lehtonen. Five minutes later Corvo scored on a power-play and the Senators stayed perfect on the year.
