In the battle of the unbeatens, the New England Patriots take on the Dallas Cowboys Sunday. Both teams are 5-0 and atop their divisions.
This is only the fifth time in league history that two undefeated teams with five or more wins will face each other.
For some, this is a precursor to the Super Bowl. They both have a standout, arrogant, uber-talented wide receiver (Terrell Owens for Dallas, Randy Moss for New England) and both run a 3-4 defense. Their quarterbacks are both very accurate and great teammates (Tom Brady and Tony Romo).
The Cowboys and Patriots are the league's top two total offenses. The Patriots, on the other hand, have the league's second-best defense as well.
New England will be led by quarterback Tom Brady, who finally has a favorite target in Moss. For years, Brady has been successful with a bevy of receivers. Now he can focus his attention on one of the game's most talented. Receiver Donte Stallworth is a deep threat and Wes Welker is good for significant possession. Tight end Ben Watson will be an X-factor in the game.
Running backs Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris will share the rushing attack for the Patriots.
Dallas brings a similar offensive structure. Quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Terrell Owens are becoming much more familiar with one another, allowing Owens to maximize his potential. Receiver Patrick Crayton is a speedster who has pretty good hands and speed. Romo also seems to utilize tight end Jason Witten very well.
Romo is second in the NFL in passing yards (1,508) behind Brett Favre, one spot ahead of Brady, while ranking second to Brady (16) in touchdown passes with 13.
Linebacker/defensive end Demarcus Ware will have his eyes set on Brady all game.
After the thrilling comeback against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, the Cowboys should be running high this game. They will have to match the Patriots' level of success with this win.
The Patriots have dominated their first five opponents, scoring at least 34 points and winning by 17 or more in each game. They have trailed only once this season and that was for 12 minutes, 36 seconds against Buffalo on Sept. 23 before they reeled off 35 unanswered points in a 38-7 victory.
