Adrian Peterson rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns and Ryan Longwell kicked a 55-yard field goal with no time on the clock to give the Minnesota Vikings a 34-31 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The win improved the Minnesota Vikings to 2-3 while the Chicago Bears fell to 2-4 on the year.
It looked as if Minnesota would ease past the Bears after Peterson busted a 35-yard touchdown run that gave the Vikings a 31-17 lead with 4:10 left in the game but the Bears were able to climb to within seven after Brian Griese hit Muhsin Muhammad on a 33-yard touchdown pass with 2:36 on the clock.
Peterson then saved the Vikings on the ensuing kickoff as he collected 58 yards on the return and put the ball on the Bears 38-yard line. The Vikings were able to advance the ball one yard in three plays and then turned to Longwell who delivered a 55-yard game-winner.
