Monday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons Look to End Woes Against New York Giants
The New York Giants travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons on Monday Night Football. The Falcons came into this season with playoff hopes. New head coach Bobby Petrino was coming in from a high-powered offense at the University of Louisville and was expected to add a more pass-oriented offense to the league's best rushing offense.
That was until star quarterback and franchise player Michael Vick was arrested for federal dogfighting charges.
They traded Vick's backup Matt Schaub to Houston and they pick up Joey Harrington. After several losses, Byron Leftwich was brought in, but he has an injured ankle and is listed as questionable. Five games into the season, the Falcons have only won once.
The Falcons are ranked 27th in the NFL in total offense and Harrington has been sacked 17 times in five games. This is not good news as they face the Giants and defensive end Michael Strahan, who is tied with Lawrence Taylor for the most sacks in franchise history. Accompanied by Osi Umenyiora, the Giants defensive line will wreak havoc on Harrington.
The 3-2 Giants are on a two-game winning streak and are looking to compete in the talented NFC East division. Quarterback Eli Manning will look to wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who has received all but two of Manning's touchdown passes thus far this season. Running back Derrick Ward has picked up the slack for Brandon Jacobs, who missed three games with a knee injury.
