Jake Westbrook threw 6 2/3 innings allowing just two runs on seven hits while the Indians bats battered Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka for four runs over six innings as
Westbrook continued his success through the sixth inning and retired Mike Lowell to start the seventh inning but then gave up a single to J.D. Drew and Jason Varitek followed with a two-run homer to cut the Indians lead in half. Westbrook then struck out Coco Crisp for the second out but surrendered an infield single to Julio Lugo. Rather than take any chances, manager Eric Wedge went to his bullpen and brought in Jensen Lewis for the final out.
Rafael Betancourt came on in the eighth to pitch a perfect half inning before Joe Borowski closed the door in the ninth.
