New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has wrapped up a three-day meeting with his agent, Scott Boras in which they discussed his future plans to stay with the New York Yankees or opt out of his contract. Boras believes after this meeting that Rodriguez has the information he needs to decide his future.
Rodriguez and Boras met for three days in Southern California in a setting that allowed for Rodriguez to assess his options.
Rodriguez has 10 days after the end of the World Series to decide whether to stay with the Yankees, or opt out of his contract and become a free agent. If he does that, the Yankees would lose a $20-plus million subsidy from the Texas Rangers and general manager Brian Cashman has said he would recommend the Yankees not negotiate with Rodriguez after that.
Boras has said repeatedly that he will try to tie Rodriguez's value to a regional sports network. The Yankees have the YES Network in New York.
A network executive told the Post that convincing YES to pay part of Rodriguez's salary would be a challenge. It is hard for some to fathom that a television network would underwrite the salary of a player, no matter how many ratings that player generates.
