College Football News: #7 Kentucky Wildcats Face #15 Florida Gators with BCS Title Hopes on the Line

Atlanta, Ga. 10/20/2007 2:19:04 AM

If the #7 Kentucky Wildcats are to continue their chase for their first national title they’ll have to do something they haven’t been able to do in 20 straight meetings, beat the #15 Florida Gators.

While the Wildcats knocked off the #1 LSU Tigers last week, they can’t afford to let up one bit when the host the Gators at 3:30 pm ET on Saturday.

Kentucky is currently 6-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks two weeks ago. Now sitting at 2-1 in the SEC the Wildcats trail only South Carolina in the East and if they win out they stand a great chance of playing in the SEC Championship.

If the Wildcats are to win they’ll likely do it with the arm and legs of quarterback Andre’ Woodson who has thrown for 1786 yards and 21 touchdowns in a Heisman-calibre season.

Woodson’s counterpart, Gators quarterback Tim Tebow has put up equally impressive numbers with 1455 yards passing and 13 touchdowns while collecting 500 yards on the ground and 9 touchdowns.

Both teams have relied on putting up an impressive amount of points in each of their games. Kentucky has averaged 42.7 points per game while the Gators are right behind at 39.7.

While Kentucky is playing to keep their national title hopes alive the Gators are facing a must win situation if they are to stay alive in the SEC title hunt. At 4-2 and 2-2 in the SEC Florida can ill-afford another conference loss.

Having lost their last two games the Gators have had two weeks to prepare for the Wildcats and no doubt head coach Urban Meyer has concentrated on getting his secondary in shape to handle the high powered offensive attack owned by Kentucky.
