Tuomo Ruutu scored at the 18:35 mark in the third period and Robert Lang added an empty-netter 35 seconds later to lift the Chicago Blackhawks ((4-3-0) past the Colorado Avalanche (4-3-0) 5-3 on Friday night.
Ryan Smyth evened the score 3-3 7:35 into the third period with a power-play goal but the Blackhawks managed to avoid the meltdown with Ruutu’s goal late in the period.
Both Sharp and Kane added two assists to their scoring line in the game while goalie Nikolai Khabibulinwas stayed busy for the Blackhawks, saving 37 shots on the night.
