J.D. Drew hit a grand slam in the first inning and drove in another in the third while Curt Schilling threw seven innings of six hit ball and allowed just two runs as the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 12-2 on Saturday night to even the ALCS at three games apiece and force a game seven on Sunday.
It looked as if Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona would get out of his first inning troubles as he struck out Manny Ramirez with the bases load and then got Mike Lowell to pop out to short right field but Drew came through in the clutch with a blast to deep center that gave the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.
With the score 4-1 in the bottom of the third the Red Sox tacked on another six runs as Drew singled home Ramirez; Jacoby Ellsbury plated Lowell with a single; Julio Lugo doubled home Drew and Ellsbury; and Kevin Youkilis scored Lugo with a single to left.
Dew finished the night 3-5 with five RBIs while Youkilis went 3-4 to bump his ALCS average to .478.
The decisive game seven will be played at 8:00 pm ET on Sunday at Fenway with Jake Westbrook taking the mound for the Indians while the Red Sox will counter with Daisuke Matsuzaka.
