Monday Night Football: Reigning Super Bowl Champs Indianapolis Takes on Jacksonville

Atlanta, GA 10/22/2007 11:22:03 PM

The reigning Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts will travel to Jacksonville to take on the AFC South rival Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football tonight.

The 5-0 Colts are led by Peyton Manning and wide receiver Marvin Harrison. With the help of receiver Reggie Wayne and running back Joseph Addai, who has been injured, the Colts have the league’s second-best total offense and are sixth in passing and rushing offense.

Unfortunately, Harrison is listed as questionable with a bruised right knee. Addai will be back at running back, which he will be relied upon to counteract the loss of the Pro Bowler Harrison.

Manning needs just three touchdown passes to break Johnny Unitas’ career franchise record, but it looks like it will be an uphill battle to do so in this game without his main target.

The 4-1 Jaguars also have a pretty potent offense, ranking seventh in total offense in the league. It is sparked by their running back duo, which is arguably the best duo in the league, of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor.

Jones-Drew ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns last week against Houston. Overall, he had 260 all-purpose yards.

Quarterback David Garrard has overcome the controversy surrounding the team when head coach Jack del Rio named him the starter after releasing Byron Leftwich. Garrard is fourth in the NFL with a 104.7 quarterback rating.

The game is going to be one that is hard fought due to the balance of both teams. The Jaguars defense only gives up 11.6 points a game, which is the best in the league.  The battle of the Colts offense versus the Jaguars defense will be intense.

Defensive end Paul Spicer will be ready to play as he earned the AFC Defensive Player of the Week last week.

The Colts-Jaguars rivalries have yielded a margin of 1.3 points per game over the last ten games. The Jags have only won three of those ten games yet causing more than half of the losses the Colts have received by division opponents.
