Cam Ward stopped 19 of 20 shots in goal and Ray Whitney collected a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes (5-1-3) snapped their two-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks (4-5-0) on Monday night.
Both teams skated to a scores opening period but the Hurricanes grabbed a lead in the second when Cory Stillman slipped one past Roberto Luongo on a power play for a 1-0 lead.
That lead was boosted to 2-0 in the third when Chad LaRose scored off an assist from Rod Brind'Amour but six minutes later Brendan Morrison lit the lamp for the Cancucks and
Ward stayed solid in goal for Caroina and the game was put away when Whitney sent home an empty netter with 33 seconds left on the clock.
