Matt Ryan scrambled, rolled to his left, and then threw across his body 24-yards and into the arms of wide receiver Andre Callender with 11 seconds left on the clock to give the #2 Boston College Eagles a miraculous 14-10 victory overt the #8 Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday night.
Just two minutes prior to the game-winning touchdown Ryan had capped a nine-play 92-yard drive with a 16-yard toss to Rich Gunnell which brought the Eagles to within a field goal of tying the game.
Following their first touchdown, the Eagles opted to go for an onside kick and managed to recover the loose ball.
Starting on their own 34 yard line with 2:11 on the clock Ryan quickly moved the Eagles down the field and put the ball on the Virginia Tech 14 yard line with under a minute left. Ryan then connected on what looked like the go-ahead touchdown but B.C. was flagged for holding and they were marched back 10 yards, setting up a 2nd and 20. After Ryan’s pass to Brandon Robinson fell short it appeared as if Ryan would look for a short pass to set up the game-tying field goal but instead, he found Callender all alone in the back of the endzone for the game winner.
The win pushed the Eagles record to 8-0 and in great shape to contend for the BCS title. Virginia Tech fell to 6-2 on the year and are now one game behind
