Preseason College Basketball Rankings by Finditt.com Released

Atlanta, GA 10/26/2007 11:07:21 PM

This year is expected to be a great year in college basketball.

The incoming freshman class is one of the best of the millennium and many went to schools where they can contribute immediately (i.e. Eric Gordon at Indiana, Michael Beasley at Kansas State).

The two biggest stars in college basketball, Kevin Durant and Greg Oden, bolted to the NBA. This year promises to replenish the star power that was vacated by the 2007 NBA Draft.

The ESPN/USA Today rankings came out today as North Carolina sits atop the list as the nation’s best team.

However, I disagree. My top 25 list is different.

The top five teams in the nation, in my opinion, are Memphis, North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas and Georgetown, in that order.

Memphis has so much talent and now has a great, athletic point guard in Derrick Rose to distribute and score when needed. Chris Douglas-Roberts is going to be one of the best wing players in the nation. Joey Dorsey is already one of the most dominating forces in the paint.

North Carolina would’ve been number one if they didn’t get demolished in overtime by Georgetown in the Elite Eight. They showed their weaknesses and I’m not sure if they have corrected them yet. Ty Lawson is a blazing point guard with great ballhandling. Tyler Hansbrough will do what he does best: win by any means.

UCLA really steps up with the addition of freshman Kevin Love. Although they lost Aaron Afflalo, Love is the best big man they’ve had since Bill Walton and Lew Alcindor. Darren Collison will run the show and Josh Shipp will continue to be their best wing player.

Kansas is stacked with talent whose priority is fundamentals. Their backcourt rarely makes mistakes and their frontcourt is athletic yet intelligent enough to make plays. They are very deep.

Georgetown is bringing Hoya Paranoia back. With the loss of Jeff Green, DaJuan Summers will step up. Roy Hibbert will probably be the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, depending on how much he has improved from last year. They play team basketball better than any team in America.

Louisville, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan State and Washington State all round out my top 10.
