College Football Scores: #18 Georgia Bulldogs Take Bite Out of #11 Florida Gators in SEC Battle

Knowshon Moreno ran for 188 yards and two touchdowns while Matthew Stafford threw for 217 yards and three TDs as the #18 Georgia Bulldogs knocked of the #11 Florida Gators 42-30 on Saturday.

 

The Bulldogs defense came up big on Saturday as they sacked Florida quarterback Tim Tebow six times in the game and forced two turnovers in the game, the last turnover, a Gator fumble inside the Bulldogs 20 yard line with two minutes left in the game sealing the win for Georgia.

 

Georgia led 21-17 at halftime after a pair of touchdowns from Moreno and an 84-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to Mohamed Massaquoi.  Stafford actually accounted for one of the Gators first half touchdowns as Wondy Pierre-Louis returned an interception 25 yards for a score.

 

A 7 play 69 yard drive to start the second half boosted the Bulldogs lead to 28-17 but the Gators quickly answered with a 10 play 66 yard drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown plunge by Tebow.

 

Stafford put the Dogs back in front by 11 when he Mickey Henderson on a 53-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. It didn’t take the Gators long to counter as Brandon James took the ensuing kickoff 52 yards, setting up a quick 4 play drive that resulted in a Tebow 3-yard touchdown run to make the score 35-30. The Gators then failed on their two-point conversion attempt to keep the deficit at five.

 

Georgia then grinded down the clock on an 5:46 second drive that ended on Knowshon Moreno’s second touchdown of the game, a 3-yard pounding that put the Gators in a 42-30 hole with under four minutes remaining.

 

Florida then drove down to the Bulldogs 15 yard line but a bad snap resulted in a fumble that Georgia defensive lineman Dannell Ellerbe recovered with 2:23 left. The Dogs then killed the clock to seal the win.

 

With the win the Bulldogs improved to 6-2 on the year and 4-2 in the SEC while the loss dropped the Gators to 5-3 and 3-3 in the SEC.
