Andre Dixon rushed for 167 yards and Tyler Lorenzen threw for 194 yards and a touchdown as the #23 Connecticut Huskies handed the #10 South Florida Bulls their second straight loss 22-15 on Saturday.
The Huskies were able to get on the board in the first quarter with a 22-yard field goal from Tony Ciaravino and added a touchdown in the second on a Tyler Lorenzen 3-yard pass to Steve Brouse.
It was the Huskies defense that provided the next touchdown as Scott Lutrus intercepted Bulls quarterback Matt Grothe and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown for a 16-0 lead.
Ciaravino boosted the Huskies lead to ten with a 27-yard field goal but Delbert Alvarado kicked a pair of fourth quarter field goals to pull the Bulls to within 19-15. With 5:19 left in the game Ciaravino booted his third field goal of the game to give the Huskies a seven point cushion, but the Bulls had one more shot.
The Bulls moved down the field and were positioned inside the Huskies 2 yard line with just over a minute on the clock but Grothe was sacked for a ten-yard loss and his fourth down pass sailed out of the endzone.
UConn improved to 7-1 on the year and are now 3-0 in the Big East while the loss dropped
