AP Top 25 Rankings Week 9: Ohio State, Boston College and LSU Keep Top Three Spots

Atlanta, Ga. 10/29/2007 3:11:55 AM

The AP Top 25 rankings finally enjoyed a week of normalcy and that’s with three teams falling out of the top ten. Ohio State holds on to their top spot while the Boston College Eagles kept their number two ranking this week; setting up a potential match-up for a BCS title showdown. LSU is waiting in the wings, hoping for a slip from either Ohio State or Boston College, as they held on to keep their number three ranking after a week off.

It was a season ender for some squads as the Florida Gators dropped nine spots after falling to the Georgia Bulldogs and the South Florida Bulls tumbled nine spots as well after losing to the UConn Huskies.

The Huskies sat on the brink of the AP Top 25 last week but with their win they jumped all the way up to #16 this week while other newcomers include Wake Forest, Boise State, Tennessee and Clemson.

Ohio State was able to keep their #1 ranking after easily beating Penn State 37-17 on Saturday. Todd Boeckman threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

The Boston College Eagles held on to #2 this week after beating the Virginia Tech Hokies 14-10 on Thursday night. Matt Ryan tossed two late fourth quarter touchdowns to keep B.C.’s title hopes alive.

LSU enjoyed a week off without losing any ground in their pursuit of a national championship. Holding on to their #3 ranking, the Tigers will travel to Alabama next week

After beating the USC Trojans on Saturday the Oregon Ducks moved up one spot to take over the #4 ranking and will have an opportunity to continue moving up if they beat the #6 Arizona Sun Devils next week.

Oklahoma fell one spot to #5 after having a week off. The Sooners will face the Texas A&M Aggies next week
