NBA Scores: Kobe Bryant Goes for 45 but Lakers Fall to Rockets on Last Second Three

Atlanta, Ga. 10/31/2007 1:15:45 PM

Tracy McGrady scored 30 points, Yao Ming added 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Shane Battier hit a last second three-pointer as the Houston Rockets knocked off the Los Angeles Lakers 95-93 in their season debut.

The Lakers jumped to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter and led 25-16 at the end of the period as Kobe Bryant opened with 13 points but the Rockets opened the second quarter on a 13-4 run to tie the score at 29-29.

After opening the third quarter tied at 43-43 the Tracy McGrady took over and dropped 13 points in the quarter to give the Rockets a 70-62 lead heading into the fourth.

Houston held a 92-80 lead with 1:36 left in the game but the Lakers went on a 12-0 run to tie the score with 13 seconds left on the clock. Houston then held the ball for the final shot and Battier buried a three-pointer with 2 seconds remaining for a 95-92 advantage. Los Angeles had one more chance but Bryant was fouled on the inbounds pass and went to the line. After sinking the first of two he intentionally missed the second in hopes of a rebound but Houston knocked the ball away to secure the win.

Bryant finished with 45 points on 13-32 shooting while Derek Fisher was the only other Lakers player to finish in double figures with 17 points.
