Hingis won more than $20 million in prize money during a professional career that began in 1994. Over the course of her career she was ranked No. 1 for 209 weeks but injuries slowed her down at an early age. Ligament damage to both ankles forced a retirement when she was only 22 but she returned when she was 26.
