NHL Playoffs Schedule Sunday May 16: Philadelphia Flyers Host Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks at Home Against Chicago Blackhawks as Conference Finals Open
The NHL playoffs schedule for Sunday opens both the Eastern Conference Finals and Western Conference Finals as the Philadelphia Flyers host the Montreal Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks welcome the Chicago Blackhawks.
Philadelphia and Montreal made dramatic runs to the Eastern Conference Finals, each winning a Game 7 on the road in the semifinals to earn the trip. It’s hard to say whose run has been more impressive as the number eight seeded Canadiens upended the Washington Capitals in seven games in the opening road and then stunned the Pittsburgh Penguins in seven in the second road. Philly took care of the New Jersey Devils in the opening round and then battled back from an 0-3 hole against the Boston Bruins to win the series in seven.
Montreal has had dominant play between the pipes with Jaroslav Halak, keeping them in a number of games and giving their offense an opportunity to put pressure on opposing defenses. That might be a bit more difficult against the Flyers who have had solid defense throughout and have plenty of weapons on offense to keep Halak busy.
In Sunday’s first game the San Jose Sharks will look to continue their impressive run through the playoffs as they host the Chicago Blackhawks. San Jose has enjoyed great success despite the relatively low-key performances from their top three Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley. Instead, it has been Joe Pavelski who has been lighting the lamp for the Sharks and he’ll need help if the Sharks are to contend. Chicago will look to avoid a first game slip as they have dropped their first game in each of their previous series.
