French Open 2010 Round 1 Results: Andy Murray Battles Back from Two Sets Down to Beat Richard Gasquet at Roland Garros
Andy Murray certainly won’t forget Richard Gasquet any time soon after the Frenchman nearly pulled of a massive upset at Roland Garros but the number-four seed rallied for three straight sets to win 4-6, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 and advance into the second round.
Murray had major problems with his serve, putting just 47% of his first offerings in play while committing eight double-faults in the match. When he had his serve going he was alright as he totaled 17 aces and collected points on 73% of his first serves put in play. Murray saved himself by coming up big when he had to the most, allowing Gasquet to break serve on just three of his twelve opportunities.
Murray has yet to capture a Grand Slam singles title yet he reached the finals at the 2008 U.S. Open where he fell to Roger Federer. He reached the semifinals of Wimbledon last year before being dismissed by Andy Roddick and he reached the quarterfinals of the 2009 French Open where he lost to Fernando Gonzalez. In this year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, Murray fell to Federer in the finals.
