MLB News: American League All-Star Game Starting Lineup, Pitchers and Reserves Announced, Joe Mauer Leading Vote Getters
The 2010 Major League Baseball American League All-Star Game roster has been unveiled with Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins tallying the most votes in the AL for the July 13 contest in Anaheim.
Mauer will be joined in the starting lineup by his Twins teammate, first baseman Justin Morneau. For both players this will be their fourth All-Star Game appearance. New York, Texas and Tamp Bay managed to put a pair of players in the starting lineup as well. Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter will be representing the Yankees at second base and shortstop; Josh Hamilton and Vladimir Guerrero lead the Rangers charge; and Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford will be in the starting lineup for the Rays.
Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners rounds out the starting lineup for the American League, his tenth appearance in the Midsummer Classic.
The AL will be pretty green among pitchers as only Mariano Rivera and CC Sabathia have appeared in more than two All-Star games. Among the pitchers making their first appearance are Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox. Victor Martinez and Dustin Pedroia were also named to the All-Star roster but injuries will sideline the two Red Sox players and John Buck and Ian Kinsler will replace the two. The Red Sox will have David Ortiz and Adrian Beltre on the squad.
In all the American League has 14 players making their first All-Star Game appearance.
Fans will have the opportunity to finish off the roster with one more selection as they choose among Chicago's Paul Konerko, New York's Nick Swisher, Minnesota's Delmon Young, Texas' Michael Young and Boston's Kevin Youkilis.
