Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner Dies at 80
New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has died.
Steinbrenner died early Tuesday morning in Tampa, Florida after suffering a
massive heart attack. He was 80.
“He was an incredible and charitable man,” his family
said in a statement. “He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He
took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again.”
Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973 for $8.8 million.
The team has won 7 World Series titles under his ownership.
A rep for the Yankees has not commented.
