Alabama Crimson Tide Ranked #1 in AP College Football Poll
Alabama Crimson Tide, the reigning national champions, sit atop the Associated Press college football poll for the first time since 1978.
Alabama received 54 of 60 first-place votes from the media panel and 1,491 points to outpace second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the top 25 rankings.
The Buckeyes, who have been ranked no lower than 11th in the last eight preseason polls, received three first-place votes.
Boise State Broncos is third, its best preseason ranking, following another undefeated season. The Broncos even received one first-place vote.
Florida Gators, Alabama’s Southeastern Conference rival, is fourth, followed by fifth-ranked Texas Longhorns received a first-place vote.
The rest of the top 10 has TCU Horned Frogs sixth, followed by Oklahoma Sooners, which received a first-place vote, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Iowa Hawkeyes and Virginia Tech Hokies.
The defending Pac-10 champion Oregon Ducks are No. 11, followed by Wisconsin Badgers, Miami Hurricanes, Southern California Trojans and Pittsburgh Panthers, the highest-ranked Big East team.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Arkansas Razorbacks, North Carolina Tar Heels, Penn State Nittany Lions and Florida State Seminoles round out the top 20.
No. 21 LSU Tigers is followed by Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs, giving the SEC six teams in the preseason rankings, the most of any conference. The Atlantic Coast Conference is second with five ranked teams.
Oregon State Beavers are No. 24 and West Virginia Mountaineers are No. 25.
