Kyle Wiltjer, the five-star high school basketball prospect, committed to the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday during the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Classic.
Wiltjer, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound power forward from Jesuit HS (Portland, OR), selected coach John Calipari and his team over Gonzaga Bulldogs, Oregon Ducks, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, California Golden Bears and Texas Longhorns.
During the halftime show, Wiltjer, who is ranked No. 25 by Rivals.com, said that he wanted to be a part of the best recruiting class in the nation and he thought that Coach Calipari was the best coach to help him "achieve greatness." He also said that he feels like he can fit their system.
Soon after his commitment, Wiltjer took home the MVP Award, along side Texas commit Myck Kabongo, as his team won the high school all-star game, 131-128. Wiltjer scored 20 points.
Wiltjer becomes the fourth five-star prospect to commit to UK, following three top 10 recruits: 6-foot-6 small forward Michael Gilchrist (St. Patrick HS, Elizabeth, NJ), 6-foot-2 point guard Marquis Teague (Pike HS, Indianapolis, IN) and 6-foot-10 power forward Anthony Davis (Perspectives Charter School, Chicago, IL). All three are considered the top player at their respective positions.
With Wiltjer’s commitment, it looks like Kentucky may have the top recruiting class in the nation for the third straight season. Their 2009 class produced four first round picks in the 2010 NBA Draft, including No. 1 pick John Wall and No. 3 pick DeMarcus Cousins.
