Speed flying champion and BASE jumper Antoine Montant was found dead in the French Alps over the weekend. According to reports, the 30-year-old went on a solo BASE jumping trip in the Haute Savoie region of the Alps on Saturday, but failed to return home and was reported missing by his girlfriend. A search and rescue team found his body on Sunday.
Details on Montant's BASE jumping accident remain unclear. Several media reports have suggested his parachute failed to open. Authorities are investigating Montant’s death. No other details were released. Montant’s brother Valery died in an accident in 2006.
Montant won the Speed Flying Pro Les Arcs for three years in a row and was the national acrobatic paragliding champion from 2006 to 2008.
