Jeremy Mayfield, a former NASCAR driver who was suspended from the sport in 2009 after failing a random drug test, has been arrested for drug possession and theft. The Associated Press reports Mayfield, 42, was taken into custody Tuesday after a search of his North Caroline home uncovered 1.5 grams of methamphetamine and numerous articles of stolen property totaling around $100,000.
According to reports, all of the stolen property belonged to two trucking companies – Lee Boy Inc. and Larry Grant Inc. – in Lincolnton, NC. The goods included heavy machinery and electric motor parts among other things. In addition to the stolen property, dozens of firearms were found. Authorities are still trying to determine if any of the weapons were stolen.
Mayfield was booked at a local jail and was released after posting $3,000 bond. He has denied all charges against him. "Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug, and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property,” his attorney, Daniel Marin, told the AP.
