Wilson Ramos To Return To Baseball Soon
Wilson Ramos says he will return to playing baseball with his Venezuelan team, the Aragua Tigers, as soon as he recovers from his kidnapping ordeal.
"As soon as I feel all right, I'm going to start playing. They didn't physically harm me, but psychologically I underwent very great harm,” the 24-year-old told Venezuelan state TV on Saturday just hours after he was rescued by security forces.
Ramos, who also plays major league baseball in the U.S. with the Washington Nationals, was abducted from his Santa Ines home on Wednesday by four gunmen. He was taken to a remote house in the mountains where he was held until his rescue late Friday night.
"The truth is that I don't know who they were," Ramos said of his kidnappers. "Basically, three guys grabbed me here at my house, they transferred me to another truck and then they took me and put me up in the mountains.”
Ramos said he was only told that he was being held for ransom. “They didn't say anything to me, only that they were going to work together to ask for a lot of money for me,” he said.
"I lay there and it was pretty hard for me, to think about getting out of this alive first of all, about how my family were doing, about my mother," Ramos said.
As for his rescue, which started with a gunfire between his abductors and security forces, Ramos says he is “super grateful.” "The truth is, at the moment they came to get me I was very nervous. There were many gunshots. ... Thanks to God, those guys did a tremendous job. I'm super grateful to them," he added.
Six people were arrested in connection with Ramos’ kidnapping. Police are still searching for four suspects who escaped.
